I this a rumour or the truth, Jamie Dwyer?
31.08.2010

Jamie, your move to Mannheimer HC was the news of the season in Germany. Now we have read on hoofdklassehockey.nl that you will stay at Bloemendaal.

Is this a rumour or the truth?

This is true. I signed a contract with Mannheim HC for next season and I was very clear with them about my Australian commitments. Unfortunately for MHC and myself there is a rule which says that no one can play in any other league or competition anywhere around the world after the 1st of August. The AHL is on at the moment in Brisbane and I'm playing like I always was going to. This is a selection policy for the Australian selection and the Commonwealth games selection.

If it is true why do you stay in Holland instead of playing in the german hockeyliga?

Its because of this rule from the DHB. MHC and I tried everything we possible could to get the DHB to change the rule but they wouldn't. Everyone wanted myself and the other Aussies to play in the DHL except the DHB, even the German players from the national team wanted us to play in the liga. The rule doesn't make any sense at all and I believe they should and could have changed it. It was totally up to the DHB and obviously they don't want Australians in their competition.

Will the new situation influence your plans playing at the Commonwealth Games?

The new situation does not influence my plans in playing at the Commonwealth games. I plan to play at the Commonwealth Games.

Do you know what happens with the other Aussies, which have planned to move to the german hockeyliga?

They are in the same situation as what I'm in. I had planned my next two years. My living arrangements, my finance, my hockey and now that has all changed and the other Australians are in the same situation. I'm lucky that Bloemedaal welcomed me back with open arms but for the other boys it is much more difficult and most of them will stay in Australia.
